Wiluna Mining Corporation eyes massive expansion of northern Goldfields gold play

Wiluna Mining Corporation is charging ahead with sweeping expansion plans in a bid to start ramping up gold production at its namesake project in the northern Goldfields.

The miner on Friday revealed it had given GR Engineering Service the nod to start building a concentrator for the project from December.

That forms part of wider staged expansion plan at the operation and comes hot on the back of a resource upgrade at the project, which had the company drawing parallels with Northern Star’s nearby Jundee gold operation.

The first stage of Wiluna Mining’s expansion plans is expected to start in September next year, with production tipped to ramp up to 100,000oz-120,000oz per year.

The second stage would come into play from late 2023, leading to an estimated 250,000ozpa operation.

The company also said dewatering of open pit voids and underground workings at the operation had made considerable progress and 60 additional rooms had been installed at the mining village.

Wiluna Mining boss Milan Jerkovic, pictured, said the awarding of the contract to construct the concentrator was a significant milestone.

“We are delivering on our promises and we plan to execute with precision,” he said.

“The sheer size of Wiluna, which is now the seventh largest gold district under single ownership in Australia based on JORC Mineral Resources, throws up challenges.

“But nothing worthwhile comes easy and we believe the prize for shareholders of developing this project in a systematic, thorough and staged manner to become a Tier 1 asset in a Tier 1 jurisdiction will be worth it.”
